How to care for your area rug

Maintaining the beauty and longevity of your area rug involves a few careful practices. Regularly vacuuming your rug using a suction-only vacuum cleaner is essential. Avoid vacuums with a beater bar as they can be too harsh, much like using a hairbrush on naturally curly hair, and can break down the fibers of your rug—accelerating wear and tear. This is particularly crucial for wool rugs, though synthetic rugs, especially thicker ones, are also at risk.

Before vacuuming, cleaning, or treating your rug, always consult the care instructions provided on the back of the rug. This ensures you use the correct methods suited for the material and make of your rug.

For stain protection, we recommend Forcefield Fabric Protector, available at Joanne’s Fabrics or directly through our website. This product forms a protective barrier to guard against stains. When applying, follow the directions closely. Use an old sheet beneath the rug to catch any overspray, which can make floors slippery. Also, ensure you apply this product in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhalation of fumes.

By following these simple guidelines, you can keep your area rug looking pristine and vibrant for years to come.
