Rug Goddess began with a memorable nickname, a passion for beautiful rugs, and a belief that choosing the right area rug should feel exciting, not overwhelming.

My name is Janice Wells, founder of Rug Goddess. For more than 20 years, I have helped homeowners find rugs that fit their rooms, complement their décor, and make their homes feel more complete.

How the Rug Goddess Story Began

My career in the area rug industry began at a beautiful rug gallery in Kansas City. I quickly developed a passion for learning everything I could about area rugs, including their colors, patterns, materials, construction, manufacturers, and design possibilities.

One day, a visiting sales representative began asking me detailed questions about the rugs in our showroom. I answered each question without hesitation, including information about the inventory, collections, and individual rugs.

Surprised by how well I knew the products, he laughed and called me “The Rug Goddess.”

That evening, I told my husband the story. As a marketer, he immediately recognized that the name was something special. The next day, he purchased the Rug Goddess domain, and a nickname given to me in a Kansas City rug gallery became the beginning of our company.

Why I Created Rug Goddess

Throughout my career, I repeatedly saw how difficult it could be for people to select the right area rug.

A rug may look beautiful online but still be the wrong size, color, texture, material, or shape for the room. Customers are often expected to make an expensive decorating decision without understanding rug construction, durability, placement, care requirements, or how the rug will look with their existing furniture.
