Unlike general furniture stores and large online retailers, Rug Goddess specializes in area rugs. We use more than 20 years of focused rug and design experience to help you understand your options and make a confident decision.

We are not limited to one showroom or a small group of in-stock rugs. Our goal is to find the rug that works best for your room, not pressure you into selecting a rug simply because it is already available.

What Happens During Your Consultation?

Your consultation begins with a conversation about your room, decorating preferences, lifestyle, budget, and what you want the finished space to feel like. We then review the physical details that affect your rug selection.

1. We Measure and Evaluate Your Room

We review the room dimensions, furniture arrangement, walkways, doors, architectural features, and adjoining spaces. This helps us recommend a rug size and placement that properly grounds the furniture and balances the room.

Proper sizing is especially important in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, open floor plans, and unusually shaped spaces. One of the most common decorating mistakes is choosing a rug that is too small for the furniture arrangement.

2. We Coordinate Colors and Design Elements

We consider your wall colors, flooring, furniture, fabrics, artwork, pillows, window treatments, and existing rugs. Our goal is not simply to find a beautiful rug. We want the rug to work beautifully with your entire room.

We can also help coordinate rugs in adjoining rooms and open spaces. The rugs do not have to match exactly, but they should complement one another through color, style, pattern, texture, or construction.

3. We Discuss Materials, Construction, and Performance

The best rug for a formal living room may not be the best choice for a busy family room, pet-friendly home, dining room, or high-traffic hallway. We explain the differences among rug materials, construction methods, durability, cleaning requirements, and price points.

We also consider children, pets, foot traffic, sunlight, maintenance preferences, and how long you expect the rug to remain in the room.

4. We Narrow the Choices

Instead of presenting hundreds of rugs, we identify a focused selection that fits your room, personal style, functional needs, and budget.

The first visit is generally used to measure the room, collect colors, and understand your preferences. Once we have narrowed the options, samples or small sample-sized rugs may be brought or ordered for your review.

5. You Review Rug Samples

Many manufacturers offer corner samples, swatches, or small rugs, commonly around 2 feet by 3 feet. A sample allows you to see the actual colors, texture, pile, and construction in your home's lighting before ordering a larger rug.

We generally recommend narrowing your selection to one to three samples. This makes the decision process easier and can help prevent costly return shipping if a larger rug does not work in your room.

6. We Help You Visualize the Finished Room

Standard rug sizes do not work in every room. Open floor plans, oversized living spaces, unusually shaped rooms, long hallways, and staircases often require a more specialized solution.

Rug Goddess can help you locate a large or unusual rug size, fabricate a rug from broadloom carpet, create a custom-designed rug, or select a custom stair or hallway runner.

Depending on the product and manufacturer, custom options may include:
