Momeni is a family-owned rug company founded in 1975, known for hand-knotted, hand-tufted, hand-loomed, and hand-hooked area rugs, designer collaborations like Erin Gates by Momeni, and wool wall-to-wall carpet. Momeni rugs cover nearly every style, from traditional Oushak and tribal designs to sculpted modern wool, shag, jute, and faux hide.

I'm Janice Wells, the Rug Goddess, and Momeni is one of my favorite lines when you want great design across a wide range of budgets. About Momeni

Momeni was established in 1975 and has grown from an importer of fine Persian rugs into an award-winning designer and manufacturer of area rugs and wool broadloom. Today, Momeni offers one-of-a-kind rugs, fashion rugs, and designer-inspired collections, with a strong focus on quality control and fresh design. Momeni marked its 50th anniversary in 2025, and it remains family owned.

Erin Gates by Momeni

The Erin Gates by Momeni collections bring a designer's eye to classic and natural looks. In this collection you will find:

• Langdon, in blue and charcoal colorways.
• Woodland, in natural beige and denim tones.
• Acadia, faux hide rugs in zebra, cheetah, deer, and brindle cow prints, made of 80% modacrylic and 20% polyester, so you get the look of a hide without the hide.

My Favorite Momeni Collections

Hand-knotted wool and natural fiber

The Momeni Nomad collection is hand-knotted of 100% wool, inspired by ancestral motifs, Oushak patterns, and tribal diamonds. For natural texture, the Etra collection is hand-knotted of 80% jute and 20% cotton, and the Nirvana collection is hand-woven of jute and wool.

Sculpted and carved wool

The Momeni Canyon collection is sculpted wool with a soft 3D wave or pebble pattern that adds depth to a neutral room. The Asher collection is hand-loomed of 100% wool with a cotton backing and an intricate carved linear design. These are some of my favorite rugs for modern and transitional homes.

Hand-tufted and hand-loomed wool

The Everett and Teppe collections are hand-tufted of 100% wool in calm, textured neutrals. The Leiden collection is hand-tufted of 100% wool with tone on tone oriental and ikat designs. The Oliver collection is hand-loomed of 80% wool and 20% polyester for softness and durability, and the Jax collection brings contemporary color in wool.

Shag, Southwestern and more

The Neo Moroccan collection is a hand-made shag of 100% New Zealand wool with a playful one-sided tassel fringe. The Tahoe collection is hand-hooked of 100% wool in Southwestern motifs. Hand-Knotted, Hand-Tufted or Hand-Loomed: Which Is Right for You?

• Hand-knotted rugs are tied knot by knot on a loom. They take the longest to make and are the most durable, often lasting for generations.
• Hand-tufted rugs are made by punching yarn through a backing with a hand tool. They offer a plush feel and rich design at a more approachable price, but they don't last as long as hand-knotted rugs.
• Hand-loomed rugs are woven on a hand-operated loom, often with carving or texture. They sit between tufted and knotted in time and cost.
• Hand-hooked rugs, like Tahoe, have a looped surface that is durable and casual.

Caring for Your Momeni Rug

• Vacuum regularly, and turn off the beater bar for shag, hand-hooked, and jute rugs.
• Blot spills right away with a clean white cloth, and never rub.
• Keep jute and jute blends dry, since water can leave marks.
• Expect some shedding from new wool rugs, especially hand-tufted ones. It settles down with regular vacuuming.
• Rotate your rug every few months and use a quality rug pad.
