KAS Rugs: Color, Comfort and Coastal Style for Every Room

KAS Rugs is a family-founded American rug company established in 1981, known for colorful hand-tufted wool rugs, coastal and tropical designs, hand-knotted and flatweave rugs, and easy-care power-loomed styles. KAS offers rugs for nearly every look and budget, from traditional Persian-inspired designs to modern abstracts and palm-leaf prints.

I'm Janice Wells, the Rug Goddess, and KAS is one of my favorite lines for Florida homes. After 25+ years of helping home and office clients, I love KAS for its fresh color, its tropical and coastal collections, and the range of constructions that let me match the right rug to the way you live.

Below I share my favorite KAS collections, how they are made, and answers to the questions my clients ask most.

About KAS Rugs

KAS was founded in 1981 by Rao Yarlagadda and his wife, Kas. The company began as a small importer of Indian dhurries and grew into one of the industry's trendsetters for color and design. Today KAS offers handmade and machine-made rug collections in casual, modern, traditional, natural, and tropical styles, and it remains guided by the same family values it started with.

My Favorite KAS Collections

Tropical and coastal hand-tufted wool

If you love the look of palm leaves and island color, KAS is the place to start. The Sparta, Cove, and Havana collections are hand-tufted of wool with tropical leaves, ferns, and coastal motifs, in ivory, seafoam, blue, and green. They are perfect for Florida homes, sunrooms, and beach-inspired bedrooms. See more in my tropical and floral rugs.

Hand-knotted wool

For heirloom quality, the Sophia, Darcy, Hayden, and Marley collections are hand-knotted of wool in India. Sophia offers neutral traditional designs, Darcy brings transitional style in New Zealand wool, Hayden adds warm textured neutrals, and Marley features a Moroccan diamond motif. Many come in large sizes up to 12x15.

Hand-tufted wool for every style

The Syriana collection is hand-tufted wool in timeless Persian designs like Kashan, Mahal, and Agra. Tuscany and Serenity bring modern linear and geometric designs, with viscose for a subtle sheen. Eternity offers a multi-textured hi-lo surface, and Hudson features plush, space-dyed loop textures, including a navy Suzani design.

Hand-woven, hand-hooked and natural

The Cortico and Maui collections are hand-woven wool flatweaves, with Maui adding a houndstooth pattern and braided fringe. The Kauai collection is handwoven in India of handspun jute and recycled yarn. The Gramercy collection is hand-hooked wool with tonal trellis and herringbone patterns. See more natural textures in my flatweave and jute rugs.

Easy-care power-loomed rugs

For busy family rooms and budget-friendly style, the Avani, Adele, Peyton, Portia, Luna, and Hue collections are power-loomed or machine-woven in Turkey. Avani and Peyton offer traditional medallion and oriental designs, Adele has an ultra-silky feel, Portia adds a graceful shimmer, and Luna brings modern metallic highlights.

Hand-Knotted, Hand-Tufted or Power-Loomed?

• Hand-knotted rugs, like Sophia and Darcy, are tied knot by knot and are the most durable, often lasting for generations.
• Hand-tufted rugs, like Sparta, Cove, and Syriana, have a plush feel and rich color at a more approachable price. They may shed at first.
• Hand-woven and hand-hooked rugs, like Cortico and Gramercy, have a lower, textured surface that works well in busy rooms.
• Power-loomed rugs, like Avani and Adele, are made by machine for detailed designs, easy care, and great value.

Sizes, Runners and Rounds

Many KAS collections come in runners, rounds, and room sizes, and several hand-knotted collections go up to 12x15 for large rooms. If you need a size that isn't offered, ask me about custom options from my other brands. You can also browse my round rugs and runner rugs.

KAS for Your Home and Office

At home, KAS tropical rugs bring life to Florida living rooms and sunrooms, hand-knotted KAS rugs anchor formal spaces, and power-loomed styles handle kids and pets with ease. KAS also offers fun designs for kids' rooms. For offices, I often recommend KAS flatweaves and low-pile power-loomed rugs that handle rolling chairs and foot traffic. I'll match the construction to how each space is used.

Caring for Your KAS Rug

• Vacuum regularly. Expect some shedding from new hand-tufted wool rugs, which settles with time.
• Use suction only on loop, hand-hooked, and flatweave rugs to avoid snagging.
• Blot spills right away with a clean white cloth, and never rub.
• Keep jute rugs like Kauai dry, since water can leave marks.
• Rotate your rug every few months and use a quality rug pad.
• See my rug care guide for each fiber.
